The About.com awards 2013 are on for this year. Feel free to add your voice to the choice of best office software picks in different categories. (Disclaimer: I am actively contributing to the LibreOffice project.)
There are quite a few categories to vote in, and depending of your use of the suite. However, be warned that in two categories, LibreOffice does not appear in the list. Strange as it may seem, LibreOffice is not included in the following two categories:
"Your Favorite Office Software for Business"
"Your Favorite Academic Office Software"
Strange indeed, as the use of LibreOffice in the business world has been described in the LibreOffice blog on a few occasions, and, as most people who know, I am a big fan of LibreOffice use in academia and education; for some reason, LibreOffice has also been left out of this section, even though it is used in many school districts in Europe. Let's hope that this can be fixed before the end of the voting process takes place.
Another strange instance on this particular section, LibreOffice has been included in the "Your Favorite Office Software for BlackBerry" although there is NO version for LibreOffice on the BlackBerry platform. Stranger still, LibreOffice is leading in this category with an 80% approval rate. Again, let's hope that this is fixed before the end of the process.
I have tried to email the coordinator about these three items and I do know that the marketing lead with LibreOffice has emailed also of these problems.
The About.com voting runs from February 19 to March 19, 2013. You are allowed to vote every 24hrs. Let your voice be heard and vote for your favourite office suite. My votes are in for the LibreOffice suite from The Document Foundation community. Oh, and by the way, LibreOffice is leading in most sections. Congrats to the LibreOffice people who have made such marvellous gains in just about 2 years! Website: About.com
I don't know if you have heard, but OpenOffice was forked last Fall and the ensuing group formed is called LibreOffice[1]. Along with the creating of LibreOffice, a foundation was formed from which LibreOffice would fall under its jurisdiction. This new group is called "The Document Foundation (TDF)"[2]. One could view this foundation more as the holding umbrella under which falls LibreOffice. It may be that TDF will later have more than LibreOffice under its umbrella and care.
As most of the OpenOffice communities have decided to follow, parEntreprise has decided to offer not only its congratulations to the group, but will also offer some help via marketing where possible. Therefore, parEntreprise recommends LibreOffice as an office suite for all occasions whether for individual, work or enterprise use. Do please lend your support to the new LibreOffice opensource project and most of all feel free to download and recommend LibreOffice to all of your associates.
Feel free to write back to parEntreprise should you have any questions regarding LibreOffice. Better yet, you will find me, Marc Paré, on most of the LibreOffice discussion lists should you decide to join the groups. There is place for all kinds of contributors, from people who supply advice, coders, marketeer, designers, document editors etc.
Join the movement and enjoy the many rewards of a large OpenSource community.
